Writers

Jane Sharp was born in Coventry, England, and her family migrated to Australia in 1964. She grew up in Adelaide where she married Peter, 33 years ago. The couple has a son, a daughter and two granddaughters.  They were an Army family for twenty-two years and settled in Pine Rivers in 1994. 

Peter Bowler is best-selling author of the humorous book about language The Superior Person’s Little Book of Words and its three sequels.  His other published books include fiction, non-fiction and poetry. A distinguished career in public service included ten years as national deputy CEO of St John Ambulance. His second novel, The De Reszke Record, is available at www.zeus-publications.com

Lorraine Noscov has had short stories published in the anthologies Write out of King’s Cottage by The Writer’s Circle of Pine Rivers. In 2009, under the pen name Treis Levin, she published her book Memoirs of a Vigilante.  As a child, she was an avid writer. As an adult, she prefers to write is stories based on facts and real life experiences.

Vera Murray was born in Allora, Queensland. She has been writing since her school days. She is a former Pine Rivers Shire Councillor. She has edited a magazine overseas. While running the Writer’s Circle group in Pine Rivers, she edited and published three anthologies. Her book Move Over James Bond and Other Stories was recently published and is now on sale.

Kylie O'Brien, 18, is a Brisbane writer who progressed from penning tales of fairies in her early youth to crime fiction around the brutal cruelty of sadistic serial killers. She hopes to create three-dimensional characters she can share with the world.  She has completed a draft of her first novel and is studying Creative and Professional Writing at QUT.

Bernie Dowling is a Pine Rivers journalist and author. His books include fiction and non-fiction. His latest works are the musical play Dagworth Day, (with Gloria Swenson), a collection of his newspaper columns, 7 Shouts, and his first novel, Iraqi Icicle. His neo-noir detective Steele Hill returns for this anthology.

Jenna Caitens is 21-years-old and works as a physiotherapist in a private hospital. She began writing at early age, creating mini books to be read to favourite dolls, and moving on to writing long, convoluted ballads attached to birthday cards. She has travelled through Europe, USA, Japan, New Zealand and Australia, and is hoping to work overseas in the future.

Jackie Smith is 21-year-old emerging author. She has had works published in poetry anthologies. Cypress Whispers is her first published short story and she looks forward to having more prose and poetry published. She has lived in Pine Rivers for more than 15 years.

Anne Olsson is a remedial therapist living and working in Pine Rivers She has been an enthusiastic actor on the amateur stage and, in recent years, an eager world traveller. Her poetry and articles have been published in newspapers and magazines.

Chrystal Byrne is 20-years-old and is in her third year of university, studying a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Creative Writing) at the Queensland University of Technology, Kelvin Grove, Brisbane. She works casually in retail and hopes to move on to do a Diploma of Education. She enjoys reading, writing and music.

Maurice Hardy is a musician and song writer in the country genre.  Recovering from a serious illness, he wrote a 95,000 word novel Shadows of Perfection. He is seeking a publisher. This anthology’s short story The Baron is a chapter from his second novel  Beyond the Comfort Zone.  

Donna Bowering, 42, is working mother of two teenagers. She is an avid reader of crime pulp fiction, Australian historical novels and biographies.  She is a sometime contributor of “letters to the editor”, letters of praise or disgust to politicians and a closet author of short stories since she was a child. Another passion is birds. She is a member of a bird rehabilitation group.

Sharyn Hutchinson is a 39-year-old writer of mystery and children’s stories.   The proud mother of five children, she wrote many of her books to inspire the two eldest boys to read. Once the family’s current house renovations are complete, she will concentrate on her writing again.

Matthew Munro is 17-years-old and he is studying for a Bachelor of Journalism at university. He plans to work full time in journalism and to write political thrillers outside working hours. He has lived in Pine Rivers district for thirteen years.
Audrey Sanderson was born in England and has lived in Brisbane for more than 40 years. In her retirement, she keeps out of mischief by writing scripts for amateur theatre and short stories to entertain friends. She has a daughter in Darwin and a son in Brisbane, as well as four grandchildren.

Cecily Gray was born and raised in Queensland and now lives in Caboolture.
She retired in 2001 after working many years as an educator of children.
She has three daughters, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She enjoys dabbling in art as well as writing.

Belinda Janz has written short stories, poetry and stories for children as well as assisting in writing a radio play . She has won short story competitions and has been published in Australia and overseas in magazines and anthologies. Her other interests include sewing, craft work, ancient history studies, cooking, reading, spirituality, massage and helping people.

David MacLaughlin is a member of the Arana Writer’s Group and a contributor to Arana Anthology 2009 - Celebrating Q150.
Members meet at Arana Hills Library at 10am on the first Wednesday of each month.
There is no joining fee, but $3 is collected at each meeting to cover the cost of morning tea and to assist in the production costs of the group's next anthology. David is a supporter of the arts through a number of organisations.

 Kerrie Petroff is a mother of four and works part-time as a laboratory assistant. She is in the last stages of completing a freelance journalism course. She enjoys writing fiction in her spare time and her goal is to finish her first novel by the end of the year.

Stephen Fitzgerald was born in Victoria’s Gippsland. His father was a shearer who, with his family, travelled extensively throughout southern Australia. He spent his adolescent years working on fishing boats in the northern waters of Australia. His writing reflects his past ‘lives’ and his beliefs.  

Carole Young was born in Newcastle, NSW, and came to Queensland when she was 12.  She is a military historian with a passion for reading across a wide spectrum.  She is currently researching the militia battalions of WWII for her second book. She has spent most of her life in Pine Rivers.

R. William Penshorn has travelled the world but still calls Pine Rivers home. Now retired, he spent most of his working years involved in surveying and civil engineering projects. He has written several movie scripts and is waiting for Spielberg or Luhrmann to come knocking. His interests include comic collecting, classic automobiles, rock 'n roll, art, surfing, and, of course, writing. 

L. G. Dalton has been writing since high school. Recently her son commented that he could not remember a time when he did not see her writing. She has written more than  forty manuscripts  of novels in excess of fifty thousand words.  Their genres are romance, adventure, fantasy and sci-fi.
