Dianne Hodge: Visual Artist & Arts Educator

Dianne’s arts practice over the past thirty years has included working in a variety of areas including pottery, textiles, sculpture, jewellery, painting, printmaking, mixed media and digital photography. In support of two of her sons’ training in the entertainment industry as well as a variety of school productions, Di has volunteered many hours assisting in the arts side of the theatre world, applying her skills more specifically to costume, mask and prop production, scenery painting and character make up.

Since moving to Clear Mountain, Queensland eight years ago, she has set up a home studio where she has more recently been focussing on experimental painting techniques and also developing her skills as an amateur photographer. She describes herself as a ‘click-a-holic’ where the camera is concerned. Years of photographing the world around her has culminated in a snapshot of some of her award winning photographs being exhibited in both combined and solo exhibitions. Her colourful, mixed media, semi-abstract paintings also continue to attract their share of prizes.

The legacy of artistic talent her late artist mother, Sunshine Coast artist Gloria Ellem left  her saw Dianne go on to train as a successful High School Art Teacher in the late seventies; in more recent years Dianne has been focussing her teaching skills towards assisting young teenagers with disabilities and learning difficulties. She finds this has proven the most rewarding time of her career. Dianne continues to devote many hours to supporting community arts projects across South East Queensland including the annual Brisbane City Youth Ballet Productions and has more recently facilitated the publishing of book showcasing the artwork of her brother Bruce who was born with Down Syndrome. As his carer, Di dedicates many hours to presenting Bruce’s work in exhibitions. Her latest venture may see her soon relocating to Melbourne where she is currently coordinator of the Vault Gallery, located at the recently opened Revolt Melbourne Performing and Visual Arts Centre in Kensington.
