Anyone for Breakfast
"Anyone for Breakfast" by Derek Benfield
Directed by Terry Frawley
Act 1 Theatre Group, Strathpine.
This very clever comedy farce centering round marital infidelity and mishap begins the 2010 season at the Act 1 Theatre Group and it is certainly worth seeing.
Intrigue and complications, all the comic elements of farce are admirably played out by a great group of actors who skilfully weave themselves in and out of tricky situations, under the tight direction of Terry Frawley, causing more and more mayhem as the plot thickens.
Nervous Jane (Meg Kiddle) arranges an assignation with Mark (Reagan Warner), a young handsome man she has met at her squash club, at the home of her friend Shirley (Clare Kenny-Hughes) who is only too happy to help as she will be at her aerobics class for the evening and her husband Gilbert(Mark Fell) has flown to Dusseldorf on business. However, nothing goes to plan, when Gilbert unexpectedly returns home with his girlfriend, glamorous, German air hostess Helga (Rose Kenny). From this point, complications increase - mistaken identity, accidental and intended, as the characters try to justify their reasons for being at the house. Thick fog keeps everyone overnight, with the additional presence of Jane's husband Roger (David Coleman).
All the roles are well developed, the pace is quick and the humorous situations were responded to with enjoyment by the audience.
Costumes and set are attractive and the play is well directed by Terry Frawley. With this bright start, 2010 promises to be a good year for the Act 1 Theatre Group.
