Youth of the Year Awards for Secondary Soloists

Two Bursaries will be presented to a vocalist and an instrumentalist selected from the Soloist sections of the Secondary Schools Contest.

The recipients will each receive a bursary of $750 dollars to be used in the advancement of their musical careers. The award shall be known as the Youth of the Year Award.

The Sections 2- 3 and 5-9 Awards are open to Secondary School Students only.

Announcement of Bursary winners will be made when the relevant section is completed.

A Youth of the Year winner is ineligible for a Moreton Bay Regional Council Bursary in the same year.

 

The Peter Campbell Realty Bursaries for Primary Soloists

Two Bursary Awards, each of $300 will be awarded by the Adjudicators in Section 1 and 4. These Peter Campbell Bursaries are open to primary school students only and are to be used in the advancement of musical careers.

 

The Moreton Bay Regional Council Bursary for Secondary Soloist

Seven bursaries of $300 to be presented in sections 2-3 & 5-9; The Bursaries are to be used for the advancement of musical careers.

Bursary winners are not eligible for a Youth of the Year Bursary in the same year.

NB: Bursary adjudication takes into account several factors other than performance proficiency; therefore place getters may not necessarily win a Bursary.

Conditions of Entry

  1. Copyright: The Queensland Youth Music Awards hold an Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) license.
  2. A full score of the music to be performed must handed to the secretary at least 20 minutes prior to the advertised starting time. Where a contestant is unable to comply with the above request, alternative arrangements must be made for delivery prior.
  3. Entrants should not exceed the time limit indicated on the brochure. Three points will be deducted where an entrant exceeds the limit.
  4. All entrants will be judged on the following criteria and the adjudicator’s decision is final:
    1. Technical skill and musicality – 60 points
    2. Presentation and suitability of choice piece(s) – 40 points
    3. An instrumentalist may perform more than once in a section provided he/she uses a different class of instrument for each performance.
    4. The secretary reserves the right to cancel any section where five or fewer contestants have been entered. Any Section with fewer than 5 entries at the closing date, shall be cancelled.
    5. All competitors must be attending a recognized accredited school. The maximum age of a contestant at date of performance is 18 years of age.
    6. Any protest must be lodged with the secretary in writing before the adjudication is announced.
    7. Competitors may enter privately, however are deemed to represent their school.

Solo vocalists are permitted to use amplified accompanying instruments or instruments which do not involve pre-recorded sound. Use of pre-recorded accompaniment will incur a penalty of not less than five points. The contestant’s voice must not be amplified.
