Ray Swenson

 

Ray has had over 50 years experience as an actor, director and administrator.

He was, for example president of Brisbane Arts theatre for 3 years and Co-founder of “The Ambrosians” theatre group which ran successfully for many years.

Ray has directed productions for groups including Brisbane Arts theatre, Villanova, Act 1, St. Luke’s Theatre. During this time he collaborated with modern playwrights such as Ian Callinan and Jill Shearer and acted in many critically acclaimed roles including such characters as “Willy Loman” in “Death of a Salesman”, “The Breaker” in “Breaker Morant”, “RP. McMurphy” in “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. He is proud to have worked with professionals such as Carol Burns and other well known actors. He has worked with numerous community theatre groups including Brisbane Arts Theatre, Villanova, Theatre Maria, The Ambrosians, Front Row and St Luke’s theatre.

He is a published playwright. He wrote the script for and directed the well-received musical “Waltz in Matilda” (yet to be published). This raised much needed funds for the Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre.

He organized the Cairns Trades Fair which raised substantial amounts for local schools and charities. He conducted a radio program on 4CA Cairns.

Ray has worked with professional bureaucrats for the betterment of theatre in Queensland and has performed feature roles in Australian and international feature films, corporate film and television . He is sought after for “voice over” work and many of the documentaries he has voiced have won Australian awards.

He is passionate about the arts, especially the performing arts, and we welcome a great talent to our Board.
