I am a romance writer.  Many of my novels are contemporary, some are historical, a few involve time travel and futuristic. Some are stand-alone novels, others are loosely connected, and some are serial and generational. I have also written some space adventure tales with a dash of romance to them.
I believe Romance lies at the heart of all lives and that everyone has a right to love. Without romance, we have no hope, and without hope, we die.  Having been a tour guide for many years I saw that belief in action many times.
I started writing when still at Highschool about 14/15 years of age. Being a ‘lone wolf’, I have always had a vivid imagination and inhabited my own little world. Like many beginners, my first writing attempts were my version of books I read. After I left school, and one avenue to books was cut off, I decided it was more fun to write my own.
I have worked in tourism, network marketing, hospitality, and the Arts. Working with people from all leanings and walks of life and artistic endeavours has allowed me to understand human nature. Writers are often loners by nature, and this allows me time to watch and listen, and thus learn by pondering.
2011 has turned out to be an interesting, exciting, and progressive year for me. I had my first novel published and I am working on getting the second published. I ran a writing course, and was invited to collaborate with a visual artist. Finally, I built and published my website.
Visit me at www.lgdaltonnovelist.com and tell me what you think of it. There is a blog, short pieces of writing, and an excerpt from The Italian’s Challenge. I am working on setting up a store for the purchase of my Novels.

2011 Achievements

STAR ZERO
A Collaboration with Visual Artist Carol Schwarzman, Valori’s Espresso Lounge and Gallery, Scarborough.
I was invited by the Curator, Therese Morgan, to write pieces complimenting and interpreting Carol’s works. I presented them to the public at the opening.
I took the theme of mapping, and applied to writing as well, with examples of mapping the worlds of my novels, and the plot of a novel. A folder with my writing and images, is at Valori’s as a coffee table piece, for visitors to look at while sipping coffee. (Maurizio makes good coffee!)
The exhibition is open until the end of July.

THE ITALIAN’S CHALLENGE (Contemporary Romance Novel)
The Italian’s Challenge is about a man who discovers that what he thinks he wants is only a small part of what he really needs. In a nutshell, the hero discovers a holiday fling has resulted in him becoming the father of twin girls. He righteously decides he wants full custody of them and sets about taking them from their mother, who promptly hits him with a Challenge. In fulfilling one challenge, he realises that there are bigger issues at stake and his true challenge is winning all three ladies’ hearts.
Part of the story comes from my own realisation and acceptance of my limitations. I felt I was fighting a losing battle against other people imposing their ideas and expectations on me.
My eldest granddaughter is the inspiration for the twins.  As every writer knows, characters seldom reveal their full depth and all their facets in one story. It was a joy to take facets of her personality and bring them together in one story.  If there was only one child, half the fun would have been missing as less than a quarter of her character would have been revealed.  Frequently when young children are involved in a story, they are more shadowy background people, and easily forgotten. I wanted the twins to be a driving force in the story, and play a major role.
The hero is actually a dig at the stereotypical romance hero. He is not 6’ plus, broad of shoulder etc. He is actually below average height for males – but then so are an awful lot of men.
Copies of The Italian’s Challenge can be purchased direct from me $30 (incl P+H) by posting a Cheque/Money order to PO Box 2153 Strathpine Centre 4500
