Writers

Writers have developed a wide range of activities through the arts alliance

Writers

The Writers section of the Alliance has about 25 members from emerging writers to best-selling authors. The Group has three aims, which are consistent with the objectives of other sections of AAPR.

  1. We aim to improve the commercial prospects of AAPR members and other writers of Pine Rivers and surrounding districts.
  2. We aim to provide assistance in the form of seminars, forums, displays and workshops to improve the quality of writers’ outputs.
  3. We aim to provide writers’ networks for collaboration, support and social interaction.

During 2010, AAPR assisted two significant milestones for our writers. The publication of The Writing on the Wall produced a high quality illustrated book containing short stories from 23 of our members. The book was completely written and produced in the Moreton Bay Region. It sold more than 100 copies and has already had one reprint. Five copies are in Brisbane libraries and four in Moreton Bay Regional Libraries. The Writing on the Wall created history for the area in that it attracted a corporate sponsor, Peter Campbell Realty in a way which could become a model for future literary projects. Our second success was AAPR’s organisation of a full morning session for this year’s inaugural Moreton Bay Writers and Readers Festival. The seminar, attended by more than 50 people, was very much hands-on about self-publishing and it included sessions conducted by AAPR president Ken Armstrong and AAPR members Bernie Dowling, Michelle Caitens and Kevin Dean.

Writers are welcome to promote themselves and their work through this website. Book reviews especially of local and Australian authors are most welcome. News items of interest to writers are also welcome.
